Well it has been a bit since my last Ahsoka episode review, but I’m back with the next one now. I’m excited about the new trailer they released a while back, and excited we’ll get the second season in January.
Season Two Trailer

Back to Season One…
Timing
This episode opens with Huyang and Ahsoka in the belly of a space whale, traveling to the other galaxy. While writing my Ahsoka fanfiction, I had to wonder, how long did this trip take? Do space whales travel slower or faster than the Eye of Sion?
I know that all of these ships move at the speed of the plot, and in this case, that is all the same speed. They also go pretty fast here, ending up in another galaxy in what appears to be, at most, a matter of days.
However, hyperdrives apparently do have varying speeds. And I wouldn’t normally assume that the Eye of Sion and random space whales have the same speed, not that the whales are using a hyperdrive at all. Thus, it is theoretically possible that Ahsoka could have arrived to Peridea before the rest of the party. She didn’t, but I like to think about these things.
Sabine Rant
No, this is not your usual internet rant. I like Sabine and I like the story. I’m fine with her being a Jedi. Let me tell you why…
“She could have ended this.”
This line by Ahsoka, and reinforced by Thrawn later, indicates Sabine’s choice to give up the map led to this entire chain of events. The series presents this as truth, but I don’t think it is.
If Sabine had said no to Baylan, he would have incapacitated her at best or killed her at worst. Then he would have taken the map.
If Sabine had attempted to destroy the map with her blaster, he likely would have stopped her before she could. And even if she had shot it, I don’t think it would have destroyed it.

The man has to hold his lightsaber all the way into the map for a few seconds to destroy it. There is no way Sabine’s blaster would have put a dent in it.
“It reeks of Jedi.”
When Kanaan trains Sabine with the Darksaber, he doesn’t say she’s terrible with the Force. He indicates something is blocking her. She had none of the issues with it others had, like we see in The Mandalorian.
Huyang deems Sabine the least qualified padawan in the history of the Jedi Order, but Ahsoka had stopped training her due to fears over her potential. What potential? What would Sabine be capable of that would keep Ahsoka from training her if Huyang was accurate.
Then we get to Peridea, and the Great Mothers note she reeks of Jedi. That she’s dangerous. That they didn’t see her coming. They’re also surprised when Thrawn identifies Baylan as a Jedi, like they didn’t pick up on that.
A Lore Theory
It has been untold years since these Great Mothers have seen a Jedi. We have no idea what the Jedi were doing in this galaxy then, or more importantly to this thought, what the Jedi were.
What if the Jedi of the galaxy far, far away were substantially different than the Jedi of our familiar galaxy? The Great Mothers might not recognize the different version. It isn’t explicitly stated they ever looked for Ezra, but if they did, why didn’t they find him?
This leads to the next point, which is they do sense Ahsoka’s imminent arrival. They are able to locate her ship in orbit with enough accuracy to direct fire onto that location.
With the end of Season 1 and the trailer for Season 2, we know the Mortis gods are involved in this story and this planet. Additionally, we know from both seasons that the architecture reminds us of the World between Worlds. We know Ahsoka has been touched by those gods, and has been in the World between Worlds. Both are why she’s alive at all.
What if Ahsoka is thus closer to the Jedi that the Great Mothers would have recognized from ages past?
Going back to my rant as well as the internet angst over Sabine’s Force powers, Huyang may not recognize Sabine’s potential if it is closer to the Peridea Jedi in some way. Her “block” may be related to that.
Other episode thoughts
I also happened to enjoy my rewatch of the episode, even with having tangential thoughts about timelines and Jedi history. I found myself wondering though, did Thrawn and the stormtroopers practice that ship exit beforehand?
Shin looked entirely out of her depth in this episode. I hope they keep that into Season 2, because why wouldn’t she be? She’s young and she knows how to fight, but has limited experience. Anger can only take you so far; sometimes you need to know how to do something other than hit it with a space wizard laser sword.
We know this for certain from what came before and from the last episode, but Thrawn is such a jerk. Smart, sure. Complete ass? Also yes.
My dog Ezra was very interested in the howler during this episode. Yes, he’s named for Star Wars. My golden is named Sabine.

Wrapping up
What did you think of this episode when it aired? Are you hyped by the trailer?
