From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back – Spoiler-Free Review

A Certain Point of View, Two

I recently reviewed the first installment of this series, A Certain Point of View. This is the second in that line of books, and it is much like the first in terms of organization. It approaches the events around The Empire Strikes back from the perspective of forty different unknown or lesser-known characters. This is my spoiler-free review of From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.

Favorite Stories

My last review talked about the concept of the book, but as this one follows the same pattern, I won’t discuss that again. Instead, let’s talk about some of my favorite of the forty stories.

She Will Keep Them Warm, by Delilah S. Dawson

Han Solo on a tauntaun, Murra

I’ve recently reviewed another book by Delilah S. Dawson, Rise of the Red Blade. She is an excellent writer and I often enjoy her work. In this story, we follow one of the tauntauns on Hoth around the time Luke goes missing. It is bittersweet, if you are familiar with the movie.

Heroes of the Rebellion, by Amy Ratcliffe

I did not expect to enjoy this one at the start, as it follows a Rebellion reporter generating propaganda for the cause. I ended up appreciating the character and the ending was wonderful.

Disturbance, by Mike Chen

Okay, this one isn’t about a lesser known character. It is Darth Sidious himself. The one prior to this is about Yoda, so we do see some fan favorites.

Right-Hand Man, by Lydia Kang

This one follows a medical droid, but it is about Luke Skywalker. It is the last of the main stories in the novel, and occurs at the end of the movie.

Verdict

This was a pleasant read. I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the first one, but the stories are short enough I didn’t mind if I wasn’t fully engaged with one.
