I got Ahsoka Lightsabers!

I got Ahsoka Lightsabers!

The title says it all – after saving up for many months, I rewarded myself with a set of Ahsoka lightsabers from CCSabers. This is my first lightsaber purchase ever, and of course, I bought two because Ahsoka is my favorite Jedi.

I got the Xeno 3.0 blades at 32″ each. I know one of hers is shorter than the other, but I didn’t want the 36″ blade as I’m too short to spin that.

The GOOD about the Ahsoka Lightsabers

Even before I attached the blades, these felt fun to hold. The hilts have a real heft to them like you’d expect a lightsaber to feel. They’re also very, very pretty and look like the seller’s photo.

Once I figured out how to power them and change the colors, the blades themselves are so cool. As cool as you could ask for as a Star Wars fan and general enjoyer of space wizards with laser swords.

There are 34 sound “fonts” which change the color and the sounds the saber makes with different movements.

They are very bright. I left the dog shedding on the floor and my shoes in frame so that would be a bit more obvious. Sabine doesn’t quite know what to make of them.

I took them to game night, and everyone was delighted to swing them around and pretend to be a Jedi for a few moments. I’d say I was the coolest at the party, but one of our friends dropped that he was attending the Critical Role live show this weekend, so he wins this round.

The MEH of the Ahsoka Lightsabers

One quirk is that you need to partially disassemble the hilts to access the charging port. This seems common among lightsabers, but it’s a bit inconvenient.

The screws to do all this and attach the blades are very, very tiny. This makes sense for aesthetic purposes, and they do include tools, but it does make it a little harder to deal with. I’ve already lost one tiny screw somewhere on the floor.

If you look at the photo of the hilts, you can see where you add some screws to lock in the blade. I don’t have any issues with this feature, because small screws there hopefully mean if you break it, the point of failure is the screw and not the blade or hilt. What is somewhat annoying is on the larger saber, that whole piece will screw off easily with the saber attached so it is easy to store the saber and hilt separately. I have not been able to do the same with the shorter hilt, so I have to unscrew the blade to store them.

There’s an app to control the lightsabers, which functions well but is meh on the details. The 34 sound fonts are listed numerically (1-34) without names, making it difficult to know which is which.

The BAD of the Ahsoka Lightsabers

The instructions are awful. Just plain awful. Maybe it is assumed once you buy a nice lightsaber that you’ve bought a lesser model and should know what you’re doing? I was not impressed at all and spent a lot of time on Reddit and YouTube to feel comfortable messing with them.

What’s Next

So this seems like an expensive hobby, but I’m already thinking about my next purchase. Which one should I buy next?
