The secret NPC I’ve added to our Dungeons and Dragons campaign has been a big hit, and my table wants me to continue writing his thoughts, absurd and incorrect as they may be. Chroniclus is a rat or mouse (we aren’t sure) that found our adventuring party in the Moonshae Isles and is now trying to keep up with us and document our history. He’s pretty good at the first part and makes up for what he lacks in the second with enthusiastic exaggerations.
I figured I’d continue sharing them here too, if only in the hopes it may prompt others to find such fun in their adventures. The rest of my party is also active in creating things, from AI videos to poetry.
Somewhat related, I did get the new DM’s Guide to go with the Player’s Handbook.
Dearest Amanda,
May Oghma’s wisdom bless you and your family. I write with important developments in my service, and humbly seek your aid, if it aligns with your goals.
Though you may have heard rumors of my banishment to the Moonshae Isles for a minor infraction, I must correct this misconception. My journey to this place was no punishment, but rather the fulfillment of a grand destiny that has set me on a path to historical riches beyond imagining.
Here, I follow a group of adventurers whose deeds surpass even the greatest of legends. I have attached my most recent report to the Keepers of Truth, which contains some details, though I will gladly share more as I uncover the depths of their greatness.
One among them, known as Orion, has captured my particular interest. I am beginning to suspect that he may be a Gravekeeper—one who guides lost souls to the afterlife. His connection to the sentient being they call JD, whom I believe may be linked to Jergal, the god of death, only deepens the mystery. Orion appears to be collecting diamonds, though not for wealth or adornment. I suspect these gems are intended for some grand ritual. Accompanying him at all times is a spectral owl, a manifestation of his connection to realms beyond the material plane. This owl likely serves as a conduit through which Orion communes with the dead, preparing to usher them to their final destination.
However, I must share a concern. Another member of this party, Cade, may be suffering under a divine curse. His unusual accent reminds me of ancient tales of divine curses, and though I admit I performed poorly in my studies of such matters, I cannot shake the feeling that there is something more to this. Perhaps his accent is tied to the strange runes tattooed upon him, which, if deciphered, might unleash horrors beyond our understanding. He seems a kind soul, having gifted the talking ship a book, but I fear for what lies beneath the surface.
Ah, yes, the ship! This brings me to my request. The Anathema is a vessel imbued with life, and she yearns for knowledge, particularly in the form of books. If you have any old or damaged volumes in your collection that you could spare, I would be forever grateful if you could send them to me. The more worn, the better—they seem to bring her comfort.
I shall write again soon with more discoveries.
Yours in wisdom,
Chroniclus
